Biting the bullet on maple
      #892511 - 07/29/10 10:18 AM

To get right to the rat killin', I'm fixing to buy a maple stock blank to build an American (aka "Kentucky") longrifle.
This will be my first build, so the pricing on the blank is a tough call!
It will be a lot of work, and I want an end product that will be "sweet", but I'm leery of how much to spend. If I botch it, it can usually be fixed, but I don't want to jigger up a $200 piece of wood!
Conversely, if it comes out even better than expected, I don't want so plain a piece that it simply does not "bring the project home" so to speak.

Price list:

Full Stock - Pennsylvania Long Rifle
Stock No. Grade Red Maple Sugar Maple
PLR Ex. $145.00 to $200.00 $165.00 to $250.00
PLR AAA+ $120.00 $140.00
PLR AA+ $105.00 $120.00
PLR A+ $90.00 $100.00
PLR A $75.00 $85.00
PLR B $65.00 $80.00

Can't see the site (firewall)....

All I can say is what has been said to me. Quality remains long after the price is forgotten. Buy the best you can afford.

I wanna see a build thread!

This is my last longrifle, about the only gun I ever sold and came to regret.

The little gal holding it is my daughter Meg, now 31 years old!
