If I build it, will you come?
      #689944 - 12/15/07 12:44 PM

If I figure out how, and set it up on the site, would you be interested in submitting your plans?

I am thinking of setting up a user submitted project plans area. Sort of a wikiplans for woodworkers. It would be a place to post your plans for whatever project(s) you wished to share. It would have to include whatever directions, plans, figures, pictures, etc. to make it useful for someone if they were looking to make the same thing.

Anyone interested? I know we would find plenty of people willing to use our plans, but what about taking the time to post it? I know I need to make the page easy enough for people to be able to enter their info... indexed.. searchable..

I talked with Ernie about this, I forget when... He liked the idea But it will need a lot of contibuted plans...

Thoughts?

Chris

Its' been a`` wile``
Almost`` One year ago ??
But I still have no idea...
One member drew his own set of plans he used
to build a nice project`` and sent them to me.
And yet it was a ``little hard to read to them ``

Being so computer`` illiterate ``
(( and in other area's )) I wouldn't
know where to begin ``` but
I still really think it would be so COOL..
to have members share their plans here !!!

Sounds like a GREAT idea Chris!

But... There'd need to be some way to ensure posted plans are "legal". Not only from a design standpoint, but also from a code perspective, which often vary from local to local.

Unless... You limit the scope to projects that are not sensitive in these areas?

BTW, Thanks for all you do here!

Well, yes, we would have to review and edit as necessary, but I was more thinking plans like for tables, chairs, sheds even, that sort of thing...

But like wikipedia, the readers submit and edit and review the entries. It would be good if people who build something from the plans add their 2 cents, hints, modifications..

I am looking at some wiki software that lets contributers add info, images etc.

Sounds like a ``Beautiful ``New Horizon``
So many talented members here..
I never cease to be amazed .. when
someone drops a picture or two of their work
in a post or in the ``display case``
Hope more members get`` wind of this ``and help
launch the idea....with any suggestions ?
and ``PLANS``

I like the idea. being not the sharpest pencil in the box, I need to chew on it a while. My dad used to build things then sell how to articles to Popular Science magazine. The articles were pretty big projects in themselves.

It would be nice if we could all agree on an easy to use graphics program for the illustrations.

I think it's a great idea, Chris and thank you! If you want tips/leads/opinions/etc on the wiki software you're looking at, you can ask the folks here at besttechies . Quite a few members have their own websites and can steer you in the right direction

Chris.. I'm a total 'pute NO-NO!! I know what a mouse is; and tend to step on it's tail.. So for me to post a pic would be a miracal.. PLUS I bet most plans would be almost impossible to follow.. Even WW mags have problems translating... Just my 2 cents!!

I like the idea...one thing that would concern me would be users posting copyrighted plans/intellectual property (knowingly or not) and the site owners being held responsible.

Neat idea, Chris! I don't have the time right now to help much but would do what I can to comment about methods.
