Dryer will not spin - Whirlpool
      #367739 - 01/12/05 07:08 AM

Set timer, hit button, sounds like motor wants to move, feels like it starts to get warm (inside). Drum isnt moving, checked by hand it does move (both directions).
I took back panel and top off, belt appears to be ok....

Whirlpool - Imperial Series
No model number i can see, other info:
7 cycle 4 temp / Comm quaility super capacity

Dryer is not even 3 yrs old yet - purchased new.

Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

John

There is a door switch that prevents the drum from turning unless the door is closed. Depress that switch manually and see if the dryer comes to life then.

If that doesn't solve the problem, spin the drum by hand when the motor is trying to start. Turn the drum as quickly as you can in the direction it normally turns. If the drum continues to turn once it's push started, it's a burned out start winding on your motor. Or, if you have a capacitor start motor on your dryer, your start capacitor is busted.
