new grass

Hello,

A few weeks ago I seeded a few bare patches in my lawn. I must have been a little overzealous in my seeding because these areas are way too thick with new grass. A few areas are turning brown. Is there anything I can do or should I pull the grass up and start over?

You can take a small pipe and insert it into your grass patches...taking out the small circles of grass to allow for expansion of the remaining growth!

If that seems to tedious....yank it and plant again!

Good Luck and a Big Welcome!

Sounds like the seed you used probably had annual ryegrass. It comes up fast and grows fast, but once it starts to get warm it dies.

Hopefully if this is true, it was mixed with some perrenial seeds that will stick around after the rye dies off.

Rye is good though if you need erosion control and green grass quickly.

you may also be over watering and have poor drainage and rotting the roots.
