My battery was dead. Some one tried to jump it but got the cables reversed. Now the car runs but the head lights, brake lights, tail lights. odometer, speedometer and power windows are out. Is there a main fuse that controls all those?
It is a 1999 2.2L Toyota Camry.
Thanks.

I want to add that I checked all the small fuses and they are good. The interior light, hazard light still work. Part of the positive terminal on the battery melted. I bought this new battery last Wednesday. What kind of damage could have been done?

Did you check the relays?
Reversing the polarity wouldn't fry a fuse, but it could fry a body control module (bcm) or effect engine control module, which may control the lights and gauge cluster.
Do you have automatic headlight function?

The car has automatic head light function. There are many relays. How can I test them? Thanks.

Do you have the owners manual - identify them first - by function. there may or may not be one that affects the lights.

My car is at the parking lot of my company. I don't think I can work on the car there. At least I want to know what to test first. What is the sequence (relays then Body Control Module)? I can tell the repair shop to do it. Do you think it is a big job? There is a repair shop about one mile away but it is very small.
Thank you very much Spackelman.

I guess you can't or shuldn't drive the car with no brake lights.
Not that familar with toyota's. Call the shop and tell the what happened.
Not a big job, just a matter of finding the componet(s) that control the lights.
Trying to find a lighting schematic on line, no luck yet.

They found a 100AM fuse. It was blown into pieces. I bought a new battery of course. I told them to do a thorough check on other things like alternator and starter. Everything is good now. Thanks Spackelman.

A 100 amp fuse, hmmm, wondering why it blew - obviously something grounded with the battery cable connections...
Do you know where the fuse is located?
Anyway, glad it was a simple fix.
