New Liner in Inground Pool-Winterizing
      #845094 - 10/16/09 05:30 AM

I am having a new vinyl liner installed in my 32' by 16' inground pool. At this time the pool lines and motor have been winterized and are not functional ( we are in the cold north!). I will be filling the pool using tap quality water delivered by tanker which I will need to treat before covering for the winter. I would like to avoid unnecessarily bleaching the liner but need to shock the water before covering. If I use liquid chlorine as per normal, having no way of circulating the water to stop concentrated chlorine sitting on the bottom for an extended period, I'm afraid it'll do some damage. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

With LIQUID chlorine, I wouldn't think you'd have any staining problems as long as there was even the slightest "flow" of the water. Why not take a canoe paddle (or similar), get the water circulating in the pool a bit, and then pour in the chlorine?

Or pour it in during the fill itself?

You could use your wall brush to stir the water. That's what I do when closing. If possible, mix the chlorine as you fill with the new water as suggested by CabinConnection.

Mix it in 5 gallon pails then pour it into the pool water. But as stated earlier pour it in and the natural movement in the pool water should mix it up.

Many thanks.I'll combine the ideas to play it save.
One further question. Under normal circumstances when winterizing, I have shocked 24hrs before closing then added the oxidizer, algaecide. stain and scale treatment, etc: then immediately covered and closed. With the new liner I would like to put all the chemicals in in one day and close- mainly due to weather and heavy falling of leaves. Is that approach likely to create any problems?
