      #882239 - 05/22/10 11:30 AM

i have a hp pavillion 300 desktop,I have just changed the harddrive,(to a bigger one)and wish to
load a new os on it. the hard drive I installed was used, but good,I can not seem to get the computer
to boot from the cd rom.
i went to bio screen to the boot section,it show floppy drive, hard drive and adapti cd rom
when i push enter on the cd rom nothing happens,I was able to move it to the top of the list, but no
change.
there is + next to the floppy and harddrive, but nothing next to the cd rom.
is it not seeing the cd rom?
PLease help me

Write what it is that you have in the CD rom that you are trying to boot from
then ask us again.

Windows 7 comes on DVD, so doesn't run from CD.

Get an external DVD reader to install from.

Make sure when you exit the BIOS, you are saving the changes.
Also make sure you have a 32 bit (not 64 bit) copy of windows 7.

I found some info on that computer online.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...ectID=c00006230

The maximum memory it will support is 1GB, and the other specs are fairly out of date. Just so you are aware, windows 7 may not run very well on the computer. It will run, but it may run slowly.

When you look in the BIOS you should see what devices are detected. It will show the hard drive and its make as it was detected. Look also at its slave or the 2nd ide master. There should see the cd rom. If your not the machine is not ever seeing it and not loading drivers for it. Have you ever updated the BIOS on that machine?

bios has never been updated on this machine.

bios screen shows as follows:
boot device priority
atapi cd-rom
removable devices
hard drive

here is the thing, there is a HP cd writer and a dvd-rom in the tower,no cd-rom
i dont understand what the atapi cd rom is listed for.
thanks
