for toilet flange. Any one use the waxless gasket from Oatey? Does it leak?

that is great news. $2.47 and no messy wax to deal with on my new tile.
i have to add a toilet flange to my old one, to raise the thing above the tile. it calls for silicone bead. but it also says where i'm attaching has to be clean, etc. it's the old flange. no way to get that thing "clean". will the silicone still adhere the new extension?

My experience with silicone is that the surface has to be absolutely clean to get a bond. I can't imagine any way to get a used toilet flange clean enough. How can you remove all the old wax plus all the rust?
I have had no trouble with the few wax-less seals I have used, but I had no confidence in the seal as I applied it. With a wax seal, I can feel it compress and seal.

I woudn't trust this Oatey wax free gasket since it has no part that extends into the drain.
Try the wax free gasket by Fernco:

Or the wax free gasket by FluidMaster instead:

the oatey gasket does have an extension into the drain hole.
i used the fluidmaster one in my other bathroom, about 5yrs ago, and it works great. i like that fernco one too. another possibility if the gasket fails me.
bob: evidently, i did manage to get the old flange clean enough. i used silicone II last night and it stuck right off with a tight seal.
thanks everyone for your input. i'll post again after i install the toilet tonight; to let you know if it leaks or not, using the gasket.

It isn't obvious from the link you provided that the Oatey gasket does have an extension into the drain.

Let us know how it works.
I'm always open to learn about new products.
And thanks for sharing this one.

the extension is about 1/2", but that's all that is needed, considering wax doesn't go into the hole at all. the gasket fits snug to the hole at the bottom of the toilet itself and worked great. no leakage. my new toilet is a beaut!
