Needs New Brushes
      #869539 - 02/28/10 03:09 PM

I have a small winch motor made by Warn for my ATV plow. The brushes have worn/broken off. Warn will not sell just the brushes and they want close to $300.00 for a new motor. The motor runs on 12v dc. Is there any way I can attach 2 new brushes to the braided wire holding the remainder of the old brushes?

I would try a local alternator/generator repair shop.

Or a tool rental place most stock brushes and may have a grind able brush kit you can grind them to fit.

Motor repair shops?? Is the other end of the wire attached? I sometimes have to find different size brushes for various motors. Then have to grind them to fit because as you found they want to sell you the whole thing. Let us know.

Warn doesn't manufacture their own motors. Any markings on the case?

Maybe this will help:

motor brushes

Remove the brushes (or one) and go to local electric motor shop, auto parts, even ebay to try to find a match...it's possible to use another brush and attach it if it becomes necessary to do so.
