Hi - I have a Maytag Quiet 100 dishwasher. It's about 4 or 5 years old, and it used to do a great job. Lately (i.e. the last month or two), the top rack glasses are dirtier and dirtier after the wash cycle (and the bottom rack plates and silverware aren't too clean, either). Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Jeff
Okay - its model MDBTT59AWW (serial # 22162314CX). I finally had some time this weekend, so i took the top and bottom spray arms off (top one snapped off the upper rack, then twisted out; bottom one was just held on by a covered nut) and got all the gunk/hard rock-like stuff out of them. The end holes were clogged up on the top one, one hole was clogged on the bottom one, and a lot of stuff came out (the top one, especially). Some of it was like little rocks (i'm thinking bits of bone or crab shells? - that's what it looked like). I didn't take the mini spray arm off, though (the one attached to the very top of the dishwasher - the one that sprays down).
I also took apart the bottom assembly (outer finned piece, pump housing, pump) all the way down to where the chopping blade mounts, and cleaned that area, too. There was a fair amount of gunk and slime. I don't know what its really called, but the finned housing (the thing the pump housing attaches to) has some fine mesh screens in it, and these looked like they were clogged up with gelatinous detergent. Is this possible? Am i using the wrong detergent? I squirted these screens (and the finned part of the piece) off with hot water using the sink sprayer, but i didn't get all the gunk out. I'm thinking like cleaning a coffee maker - can i run white vinegar through this thing? What will get that stuff out? Am i using the wrong detergent?
As an aside, the bottom of the dishwasher wasn't too clean (look like it had a film on it). Also, there was a "tub ring" (for lack of a better parallel) on the bottom of the dishwasher tub, close to the door.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Hard water deposits, undesolved soap, both.

Sure, water temp should be min 120ºF to desolve the soap correctly and the closer to 140ºF the better.

*I* don't like using vinegar in a d/w as the vinegar has a tendancy to eat away at rubber items. A little bleach can help. There are also some good d/w products on the market...
DishwasherMagic - Specifically designed to clean dishwashers of lime scale, iron and soap scum buildup, safely and effectively

Maybe for your area/water/washing habits.
Leaks at the upper spray arm docking stations can also cause low water pressure for the upper rack(s)...worn docking stations are common.
Station, docking w/flapper
