I need to cut a piece of wood that is 24" x 24" (2'x2') Before, that was a job for the circle saw. The wood is too heavy for me to feed - especially on that small Delta. NOW....I can comfortable set it up on my saw - and there is an outfeed extension to support it. I'm just waiting for my neighbor to come home so I can ask him to spot me while I make the cut. I have a push stick ready - but this is a big piece for me.
BTW, the person I bought the saw from has told me he'll be able to give me some pointers once he gets his shop together and new saw assembled.
Now...back to that job search!!! I get distracted so easily!

It sure is a thrill to use a sweet new tool. What tool do you plan to get next? A cordless drill of course but that's a bare necessity. You already have a router don't you? It's surprising how more and more tools become bare necessities. I have bare necessities in my shop that I had never heard of two years ago.

The oddest thing happened!! Amazon called and told me if I didn't buy what was in my cart, they'd have to shut my account down!! Before I could think....I'd checked it all out!
Bench Dog Feather Board - No one should have just one!
Can't be to safe!
For all the jigs I plan on making!!! Someday!
NOW YOU KNOW I would never have purchased those things if Amazon hadn't given me no other option!! I don't have that kind of money! I'm a practical person. (So I have a saw in my kitchen...that's different) I realized I needed the featherboard after one of the members here reminded me that 2 is better than 1. While there...who could pass up that push stick? It will hold a tape measure (mine's currently on the refrigerator along with my level) and pencil! Oh...and that little piece of track? I have great PLANS to use all this stuff!!!
I was going to get a drill, but it seems that the smaller they are, the more expensive they get. Go figure. Maybe in another couple years, they'll be making them bigger again? I might look on Craig's List or E-Bay for a used one. My current drill was my dad's and the one from 1960 was one I found when cleaning out a home. I'd look for someone who just lost a spouse or grandparent who was a woodworker and offer to clean house for them. But that's REALLY lower than even I could get!
Oh yeah. One more thing: Words of Wit & Wisdom IT WAS ON SALE!!!!
I better get a job before I go broke!

you do not want to use a push stick with a piece that is 2'*2'. feed by pushing with hands, couple of fingers from the hand closest to the rip fence riding over the fence if you want. save up like $19 and buy taunton's complete illustrated guide to tablesaws by paul anthony. it will provide you with days of entertainment, evereything veery clearly explained and nicely illustrated. ront

I did a cut yesterday, but it didn't come square. The board is still heavy (for me). It seems hard for me to push AND keep the board down as tight as it should. I hate to sound like I'm making excuses, but my hands are small and make it challenging to hold the board as secure - I can't reach in with my fingers and hold my thumb on the edge of the wood to help push it. When I attempt to guide the piece along the fence with my left hand, I'm still learning how to push with my right hand - without letting the front edge slightly tip or shift from the fence. I didn't have trouble when doing smaller pieces (like my box). But larger pieces are more cumbersome. I think I better start lifting those weights again!!!
By the way, I have The Table Saw Book and have watched Kelly's video several times! He's a wonderful teacher. I gave the video to the guy who sold me his saw because he just got one of the BIG saws and is (in his words) "going to try and learn more about woodworking". Obviously, from my standpoint he already KNOWS woodworking! In this book, and the video, KM covers maintenance and the subtle settings of a table saw. You are right - I have lots of fun reading and pay close attention to the pictures. I try to imitate - but DAMN - he does it with such grace! Then I remind myself - I do that in Excel, Photoshop (to a degree) and Crochet. After years of working at them!!! I want to do it all NOW!!! Then I remember my friend who wants to do the same things as me on the computer. I like to think the hours of work and study in this area make me a professional. Just like you!!! If it were all so easy - you wouldn't be so special - AND YOU ALL ARE!!! Especially to people like me who are all thumbs!! (Short thumbs too!!!!)
Today, I'm going to try doing multiple cuts and just make some firewood! I have tons of wood now. Just need to get up the mo jo to get over my fear - and the noise!!! It's so QUIET up here!! When I put the radio on, the noise from the saw is less shocking.
Thanks for your encouragement!!!
