Don't do ANYTHING to your Registry, Sevan! Stay away from anything that tinkers with it
As far as malware-hunters go, Malwarebytes is terrific. Download, install, UPDATE and run the quick scan (6 minutes on my idiotbox!) If quick scan finds cooties, quarantine them (*I* always quarantine and then make sure the idiotbox is running fine! Then I kill 'em) and run the full scan.

Re: DLL error from Network License Activation Utility Posted: Jul 17, 2008 4:40 PM in response to: ljb99 in response to: ljb99 Solved, it seems. NLA for 3ds Max Design 2009 - and presumably other 2009 products, does not work on Windows 2000. It installs OK but won't run. (I know, the products require XP or higher, but I expected the NLA to continue to work on Win2K, or if not it should refuse to install.) We still have some Win2K PCs, and that's what I tried first. It worked fine on an XP PC. TravisNave

Re: DLL error from Network License Activation Utility Posted: Aug 22, 2008 1:04 PM in response to: TravisNave in response to: TravisNave Hi,
The reason that it doesn't run on W2k is that ereg.dll (AdEreg.dll) tries to load kernel32::GetNativeSystemInfo API. This API was introduced in XP and Server2003. Thus it requires XP, Vista, Server2003 or Server2008. The call is statically linked and hence ereg.dll cannot possibly be loaded under W2K.

Have you tired removing and reinstalling the program?

make sure you have a shotgon handy:)
the worst part about having to reinstall my OS was that dell had not given me the correct drivers and utilities disk. it took me a while to figure that out but then i saw it all over the internet. i wasn't the only one and trying to find out what drivers you need is a real pain. quite a steep learning curve for me.
on the flip side i hear windows 7 is a dream.
good luck bozo.

My biggest beef is the "up-dates" and reinstalling all my programs. Jeesch! Then you gotta set them up how ya like 'em.
I love my XP, but I gotta get with 7... We have it on a lappy, but TheBrit is pretty possessive with it. We have five machines... Office desktop is XP, laptop, 7, my home unit will be 7 with an XP partition, and TheBrits home machine has 7 and vista... The last unit is... well shucks, I dunno. It's used only for backing up customers data before service. XP, I'd guess. It doesn't get much use, because we usually crack the case and plug in a HDD for transfers.
Drivers are ALWAYS the biggest problem, no matter what you're doing. Because of the volume of units we service, we use Driver Agent, a paid-for "problem solver".
No shotguns around my computer, but earmuffs are usually needed.

I like the repair DVD that Windows 7 can make. It solves problems easily and gets the boots going easily. Otherwise, it's another version of XP with some Administrator lockouts and a new face to confuse.
