What would be the best way to build a stage/platform to place in my Living room/office? I will be putting my desk on top of it and filing cabinets and so it should be able to take some weight. In a room with 9 foot ceiling. This is in a first floor apartment that has Hardwood floors. So I would need something like a sheet of thinner plywood underneath so that the crates slide on that instead of scratching the floors when i glided the crates back and forth.
Dimensions are 8 foot x 8 foot 16 inches high with room for storage underneath. I want to put the Staples crates under the stage for storage. (These are 18" x 15" x 12").
What would be the estimated cost? Which wood should I use?
--->> Is this a good plan to follow from this website video?
DIY PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS VIDEO IS CORRUPTED so that the video is mixed with another video so it takes patience to view this video sorry this is the closest I could find to make a stage myself.
This video shows the use of trusses made out of 3/4" or 1" plywood that has the strength and reduces weight.

You're right - that video was a treat to watch. Something similar to that should work for what you're trying to do. Points that I would suggest you keep in mind: 1. You can add another sheet of plywood on the bottom (only needs to be 1/2") to give the box some stability. Then I would use some short nap carpet glued to the underside to protect your floors. Either strips under each "truss", or cover the whole thing. 2. That's a pretty big piece of furniture. Are you planning on building it in your apartment, or outside. If so you need to figure out how you're going to get it in and out. May need to build it in sections. 3. For stability, I would add cross frames that span between those trusses on the video. Definitely one at the mid point of the stage, and probably one at the 2 foot point on the back side of the stage where the desk and filing cabinet will go. 4. The opening you put in for access to your under stage storage will need to be considered so that it doesn't weaken an edge where somebody standing on it will break through. 5. Draw everything out first, and get your storage bins. If you put the trusses at 16" on center, that only leaves 15.25 inches between them, and then you get one of them a half inch off, the 15" wide bin won't fit. Also keep in mind what the opening will look like. (related to point four above). If you put another truss type piece on the front, will it fit those openings.
Depending on how you plan to finish your stage would drive your plywood costs. AC plywood in MO runs about $35 a sheet, while the lower grade BC is around $25. At 8 x 8, you'll need 2 on top, 2 on bottom, at least 4 sheets for the trusses and front/back skins, plus another for the cross webs. Plus glue, screws, paint, carpet, mistakes... you're probably pushing $400.
Good Luck
