The dishcharge line loops up to near the top then goes down right to the disposal fitting. It does not loop down just before the fitting.
I have not noticed any water coming out of the other drain when this happens although water has gurgled out of it a few times when I turned on the disposal unit....
Also, there is no seperate vent for this sink. Only one main plumbing vent for the whole house (built in the 20's, although kitchen remodel is newer).
